Well, it is a profession, not a hobby/craft. They administer medication to allow physicians and surgeons to perform medical operations on a patient. During surgery, they stay with the patient and moniter vital stats and continue issuing meds to keep the patient "under", and then stop when it is done and make sure patient wakes fully and safely. This job requires a doctor's degree and medschool to be trained and certified.
