I hear this a lot but usually the opposite is done. Would anyone agree with me if I said that the reason we judge has to do with past experiences, upbringin, and beliefs. No matter what the situation is, people will always judge others initially based on looks. The look of the person might trigger a bad or good judgment based on the judge's beliefs and experiences. Such as a woman who dresses very conservative might judge a girl who dresses reavealing harshly, but in reality when they both talk and get to know each other, she might accept that she judged harshly and wrongly based on her new found knowledge.

Agree or not agree?

The quote is obsolete being that we judge first then understand later.

I would have to agree with you that it has everything to do with up bringing, as well as the people we hang out. I still do it even though I say I won't. People want to believe they can change and not look at someone and make a snap judgment but it's kinda like it's become second nature to everyone.

Like you look at the big guy with the hot girl and think she could do better when he treats her like a princess and the hot guy probably won't you know.

Totally disagree with the whole "don't judge a book by it's cover" thing. An artist o\bviously worked very hard to design it, and if the author didn't have enough support to get a good cover done for him then he probably isn't a very good writer. Translated into judging people: People work hard to look good. If they have succeeded then they obviously care enough ab out themselves to show themselves in such a matter. if the opposite is true then they really don't care about themselves and probably not you either.

I agree with you some times people judge to harshly without a real basic reason to do so! It pays to take time to understand each other! I have been thinking along the same lines!

I do agree with that and its a shame. So many people walk around judging when they haven't been in that person's shoes or have even known what they have gone through. Also, people may be missing out on some nice friendships because they judge now and ask later... imho

i think in a way when we judge before reading the book, maybe that is our way of making sure we can trust that the book is worth while, if you gave total trust into everyone youve ever seen and just kept on reading through their lives, how many would take advantage of your kindheartedness and such. To judge might just be a means of a self defensive way to make sure you can let your walls down. Its all about security to me. That is why i give a first look. If we were all blind would that of ever been a qoute? hmmm. lol

Definatly agree, everyone we judge wether intentionaly or not, those feelings come from every pssible aspect of your life....lets say you see someone who looks mad, he is dressed in old dirty clothes and just looks....looks what? This all has to do with society and what we have seen and heard growing up...if people really did get to know eachother it might be different...but it is still the bad eggs who give every diff kind of person a bad name...not every dressed dirty is an asshole or a thief....some people are just poor or have there own excuse they dont have to be on drugs or be a criminal nessacarily....well theres my rambling for the day

I agree, but I would'nt exactly call it judging. Everyone forms an opinion when they first meet someone. It's natural unless you don't care about people at all. And it's not always a bad opinion. But usually after you get to know the person the opinion changes.

I agree. People also judge by looks because it's a persons first impression. People don't see the inside of you the first time the set eyes on you. They see what you look like.

I agree completely, or like someone is Goth is trouble a drug addict depressed a rebel or whatever, or someone who is young and pregnant must be a slut, yeah I think it is only natuarl because perhaps we see situations where first impression is true we think it is always true, but many times it isn't.
I have been guilty of it many times myself not of te above examples but maybe thinking because someone has friends who are jerks they are jerks too. I know I have met people and been surprised that they are not who they think they are.
Like would you imagine a biker is a lawyer or a judge. Probably not, but many do hold high respectable jobs, they are not all what people might make them out to be.

I agree...it annoys me when people (mostly girls) say "I notice someone's personality first," and act superior to those who are commenting on the attractiveness of the opposite sex. No, you don't. You notice their appearance, you see that long before you get to personality. Appearance might provide some clues as to personality, but this is, as you said, based on past experiences.
