to discuss overpopulation ? The poorest people all over the world are humping their brains out when they cant support them. Why dont celebrities hand out condoms and do EVERYONE a big service to humanity ? The worlds population is increasing by 1,000,000 every 5 days !!! Absolutely unsustainable by any measure !

Why is it the celebrities responsibility? Perhaps birth control manufacturers could make thier products free for areas of the world that need it most. Then, each countries government or some other international organization (such as the Red Cross) could make it available to the people there.
Also, some religions don't believe in birth control, so they wouldn't use it even it they had it.

"Absolutely unsustainable by any measure" is the right phrase to describe this situation but what can the developed countries, who had attained the zero growth level two or three decades ago, do with the developing and underdeveloped countries who think nothing of overpopulation and expect the developing countries to provide them with financial support for their increasing numbers? If they don't give them help then they start moaning and accusing them of selfishness and greed. What are the developing countries supposed to do then? exchange wheat and rice aid for latex condoms and a pictorial brochure on how to use them? Awareness must come from the developing and underdeveloped countries themselves and not by the ever-generous developed countreis who cannot be generous forever.

Like any population, the humans will overpopulate. Then, a disease, famine or internal aggression will "thin out" the population. What do you think the Black Plague was good for? But, everyone has to remember that the earth doesn't have a limited carrying capacity.

People sometimes is so ignorant, I was told once that a guy with 10 kids ask to the doctor why they have so many children if "HE is taking the pill every day, since his wife can't tolerate them because the pill make her feel sick" It's not a matter of hand out condoms, it's a matter of education, sadly the government in those countries don't want to educate them, it's easier for them to keep them that way.

I agree. The answer is to stop feeding these people through "humanitarian" means that produce MORE people that their natural resources cannot support. But despite being 100% correct, that answer is not politically correct so we can't talk about it.
For those idiots saying blame the Catholic church, the biggest problems with population are in Africa, India, and China - none of which are considered Catholic or even Christian areas.

The same poor countries you are speaking of also have high mortality rates due to starvation and disease. Condums are expensive in theese countries and if you live in a grass hut then more then likely you have never seen a condum nor know what its used for since you have no schooling or ever seen a TV. The cure here is education.

It's taboo to discuss overpopulation because most of the aid going to the developing world (particularly from the US) is coming through Christian aid groups, many of whom feel that birth control is wrong.
I think the answer is not to blame people for "having too many children", but to look for ways to give them the economic stability that they need in order to live their lives with dignity. It's proven that economically stable countries with equal opportunities for women have much lower birthrates.

In Epidemiology there is a formula to calculate the likely hood of a major outbreak of infectious disease. One of the major factors is proximity. Proximity to animals and other people. Don't worry. Once the population reaches a critical point there will be horrific, infectious re balancing.

Overpopulation is indeed a huge problem that no one is discussing.
Family planning needs to be taught all over the world. Unfortunately, funding is a problem, especially from the U.S., which stipulates that if abortion is mentioned, the agency cannot be funded.

Just because condoms are handed out doesn't mean people will use them. There's no stopping overpopulation.
