I am "restoring" a 1976 Camaro for fun and as a learning experience. The exhaust headers that are currently on have several holes and the rest of the exhaust pipes are just *#@$ up looking. I want to replace everything with high temp pipes but my block is cracked. Should I just settle for a cheap exhaust set for now until I replace the engine?

IMHO, If the block is cracked, replace the engine and put a cheap, complete exhaust system on it for now (until you can afford to upgrade the exhaust). A stainless steel or coated exhaust is gonna cost some big bucks, but they're pretty useless unless you have an engine to pump exhaust through them! And if the block is cracked, its gonna get worse in a hurry!

Change the engine and then all the exhaust system. The car will "sound" much better with a new exhaust (especially a high performance one) First replace the engine and then look for a new exhaust. Don't throw money away on a cheap one.

yet another automobile. Jack up the dome lamp. replace each and everything below. you ought to likely be extra perfect off attempting to in high quality condition an AWD '80 4 Audi 4000 Quattro powertrain contained in the GTi. Even that is going to take some fabrication, (engine's gotta' bypass ninety° any incorrect way... yet likely decrease than fabbing up a RWD from scratch)

Oh Yeah by all means. Just bodge it together as best you can for now. It'll be easier and cheaper in the long run to get the stainless exhaust done at the same time as the motor.

if you have the money, replace it all. exhaust leaks can deplete your hp a good bit and make your car sound like crap. if money is tight, go to a junk yard and see if you can pull some headers off a junked car.

No way, you would be just wasting money......besides if the block is cracked why would put ANYTHING on it until you get a new block?
