We need laws against impaired drivers, obviously, but this constant lowering of the b.a.c. limit is just a money maker for local and state governments. Now most have gone to .08, however myself being a CDL holder, I am restricted to .04 whether I am in my 18 wheeler or my pickup. Yes, thats right. Because I am a truck driver, different laws apply to me EVEN IN MY PERSONAL VEHICLE!! So, am I more or less impaired at .04 than the next guy at .08???
Yes, the laws are getting ludicrous.

Well, they've been strict, and I think it's a good thing. I got a DUI when I was 17. I'd had a drunk driving accident and the courts made an "example" of me by granting the maximum punishment. I was on probation and lost my license for two years, but that's nothing compared to what could have happened -- I was lucky to walk away with my life, and thank God no one else was involved. The punishment worked, and maybe the judge ended up saving my life, or someone else's - I've never driven drunk since, not even once, not even down the street.

Absolutely not- you have no right to drive, it's a complete privilege. If you drink, you should have a backup plan for getting home. It is COMPLETELY stupid to drive a vehicle with ANY chemical in your system that is known to affect motor control/reflexes and judgment. This is just my opinion of course, but if your life has ever been touched in ANY way by a drunk driving death or injury (which I've seen way too many of in my career), you'd probably feel the same way. If you know you're going to be drinking, take extra money with you for taxi fare.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. To get a license, you should have to accept the terms of the rules.

In Canada, if the police suspect you have been drinking they can demand a breathalyzer test. If you refuse, you're automatically guilty of drinking and driving. If you're unconscious in an accident, they can test your blood without your consent. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

I'm also in favour of confiscating cars. If you drink and drive, you can't get your car for 60 days. If your response is, "How am I supposed to get to work?" my answer is, "You should have thought of that before driving drunk."

And to anyone who says, "Well, how are you supposed to get home if you drove to the bar?" try taking a cab to the bar. If you can't figure that out, maybe you shouldn't be allowed to have a car.

NO! I think they should be even more harsh. When you step into a car drunk you have become a moving and dangerous weapon and usually it is the person that gets hit that dies, not the loose and relaxed drunk at the wheel. I feel no sympathy for those who are punished big time for driving drunk. It was their choice to do it in the first place.

I'm personally for the idea of, Get caught drinking and driving, lose your license, Period.

You know it's illegal. Don't do it if you don't want to pay the fine. You can afford to get drunk, but not a cab? Walk.

You can go and drink and drive on your own property, but drinking and driving on a public road puts others at risk as you become an incompetent person while drunk.

No, but the laws on recreational drugs are way too strict. Why do we have 50% of the jailed populous in there for simple possession charges while drunken maniacs are mowing our elderly and children down in the streets with 1-2 ton weapons of destruction?

My friend was killed by a drunk driver while she was on the way home from babysitting for a friend. He didn't have a scratch. No I don't think that the laws are strict enough.

No. Drunk Drivers kill, take public transportation when drinking.

In germany if you are caught driving drunk you will never drive again for the rest of your natural life. In America we give 'em three strikes. If you can't get smart by then, you're a moron and shouldn't be driving regardless.

Considering that 2 beers these days is considered drunk, I would have to agree with you.

I don't even get a buzz off 2 beers, but according to some machine, apparently I am wasted.

However, the penalty for actually being drunk should be severe.
