The small fas station ones only hold about 2000. relays a signal to the service guy, when it is running low.

The ones in the bank hold a lot more. Closer to 10000. There are a lot of variables set by the security and the manufacturere. They can hold a lot more than they actually do. Insurance will only cover so much, so they reduce the amount of cash in it to the numbers above.

This depends on the model, how much business the machine does. The machines you find a quicky marts are not very secure and hold a lot less. On the other hand a machine located at a Bank can hold more...

Here is a video that shows you what you asked. And it even shows you the INSIDE of the ATM machine (no cash dang it)

It CAN hold much more than they are willing to put in it. They stock them according to predicted traffic. Example - if there are 1,000 users every day, they wouldn't put more than $100,000 in it. That would be a busy machine (think about how many transactions a single machine can actually accomplish in a day).

There was a recent ATM machine robbery and I think they got about $25,000 in cash (they were caught). So the small 10's of thousands is probably what they stock an average use machine with.
