Put some vinegar in the bottom of a glass.
Make a cone out of a piece of paper and place it small side down into the cup, not touching the vinegar.
The flies will fly in to get the vinegar but will not be able to get out.

Also, they may be living in your garbage disposer if you have one so scrub it out well with bleach!

I had this problem a couple of years ago and I think this is what finally worked. Hope it works for you---they do make you crazy!!

Other than calling pest control, try this...

Remove organic garbage and anything else that might attract fruit flies from the house as frequently as possible.

Hang sticky strips from the ceiling in your kitchen or pantry to get rid of fruit flies.

Fill a small jar or container with vinegar, fruit juice, or fermented fruit and insert a paper funnel - fruit flies will be able to fly in but not out.

These may not be fruit flies. I have had a similar situation with house plants that may be over watered. When water is standing in the tray, or in my particular case of starting seedlings, the soil remaines moist daily, Somehow, and I don't know where they come from, these gnats, or flying ants appear. I was successful in eliminating them by placing a dish (bowl) of vinegar next to them. The following day, I noticed these gnat corpses floating in the vinegar. Give it a try, It can't hurt and vinegar is cheap. Just place it in the location you have noticed these things.

Good luck!

Check for old potatos, that's what happened to me. I went to walmart and got a bug bomb. It's by the cleaning supplies. Make sure to have pets out of the house and all food covered up. Also open windows after about 2 hours of the bomb going off. It's very toxic to your health. Make sure pets ARE out of the house it could make them very sick and even die. Don't leave any food exposed, it will be harmful. Check for the potatos. Don't be in the house when you do this. Good luck.

It is a possibility that you need to have your drains cleaned out. You may need to call a plumber if it is something you can't do yourself. So if the bleach does not work, have drains cleaned out totally.

I had this problem too and couldn't figure it out. I sanitized my kitchen counters really good with Clorox antibacterial wipes and sprayed down my upholstery w/ Febreeze....it seemed to do the trick!
