If they can build an oil pipeline right across Russia to the Middle East it must be pretty simple to provide a water pipeline so Aftican women don't have to walk 20 miles there and back to the nearest well each day as seen on TV recently.
Why aren't we doing it?
Not me obviously, I work in a bank.

Its probably more like a few hundred meters in most places with no running water. A 20 mile walk would take a full day (at least) each way, given the condition of roads in some of those places.

The face of Africa is changing, slowly. Solar powered technology is taking off - because there is less overhead than installing a power infrastructure. For a similar reason, cellular phones are becoming more common.

The real problem in most of the worst affected countries in Africa is poor government. They have the money to do it themselves, but it is sitting in Swiss bank accounts.

In contrast, the better governed countries on the continent have improved dramatically over the past decade.

The world, whatever that may mean, does not seem to cater for the needs of the poor or that of an ordinary person. It tends to cater for the needs of those who can afford their needs to be catered for. Oil is consumed by people who can afford to buy it at high prices whereas water is the need of people who cannot afford to buy it. Oil is expensive water is cheap that is the problem. Water can be found on African soils but it would require an industrial revolution and that would in turn require oil as a fuel. The problem comes round to the same basic necessity upon which the modern world has been constructed - an endless and reliable source of energy.

The needs of the modern world are not the same as the needs of an ordinary human being. This is why we are well into trouble with our local environment, global climate and also with each other.

Every damn Government has no budget for non-profitable projects. Building an oil pipeline from MiddleEast to Russia is a big MONEy, suggesting a bridge for AFrican women, leave it to DONATIONS! what matters most in this World is Money! think about it!

When I took geology in college my professor, who had spent time in Africa, told me this... The poor of Africa can barely make enough money to feed themselves. so lets say you do make a water system for them piping and all and you pay for it. When a pipe breaks who will fix it? the problem is a family who can barely afford to feed themselves cannot possibly afford something as a piece of pipe that has to be imported from another country which is an extra cost.

It's sad and really its the country's government who is to blame. All theese issues about inadequate resources for basic needs in poor countries is directly linked to how the country itself is goverened. Some governments actually starve thier people on purpose, finding it easier that way to control population and the mindset of the people.

Russia and the Middle East are generally richer than African countries like that. Unfortunately, the governments are too corrupt or too poor to deal with it, and potential water companies see no profit.

Maybe you could set up a charity to sort it out?

russia financed that project and they did one hell of a job but affrica doesnt have the capital to do anything close to that. and as long as all of our tax dollors are going to war and corn cars we cant do anything to help. if you feel that bad you could take some of that bank money and donate it to some of those villages for their medical and stuff. its cheap and tax deductable. or just buy a bunch of roller blades and mail a pair to every woman over ther so they no longer have to walk 20 miles they can roll 20 miles. j/k bout that last part.

The parts of Africa you are refering to don't have significant enough oil reserves, if any.
