Seriously, folks-- the shortcuts, the phonetic spellings, the blatant disregard for one of the most practical languages on earth--are just abhorrent. If you're a native speaker, take some pride in yourself, your culture, and your language and learn how to speak (and write) it.

--And why are there "Women's" Studies in this category, but no studies of any other demographics? Sexist much? (Sexism goes both ways, you know, just like racism).

I don't think there is as much emphasis on spelling and grammer in school as there used to be. I don't mind some of the abbreviations but the misspelled words are annoying.

As far as "Women's Studies". Of course, without a corresponding "Men's Studies" it is out of balance. But all you can do is speak and write correctly. Or go to your local Board of Education and see what it is they are teaching.

Sometimes people have a lot of 'splaining to do, Lucy! And the 1000 character limit imposes the situation that in order to fit in just the right word, that it be truncated to something that is still recognizable; hence the txt msg style of abbreviation: not all words can be cut without losing their meaning, therefore--or rather--so (shorter words work, too...thereby lessening the level on some occasions of the writing)...we wind up using acronyms, abbreviations, and substitutes in order to get our points across most effectively. (We think.)

I got chastised pretty badly for asking a question such as this.

I was advised that I owed a deep apology to this board for violating others rights.

My question wasn't nearly as probing as yours, so be prepared.

I posted a currently used advertisement commonly broadcast on national TV to promote college education. I don't mind posting it here again but I expect a trainload of email in my inbox. Again!

I erroneously thought that something was wrong with the grammar in this, but it appears that I'm all alone with my thoughts.

Normal English is for people not intellectually challenged. You can think all the teens and tweens for all the shortcuts or maybe their teachers who seem to lack the skills necessary to teach proper grammar.

Spellcheck is a button that's too hard to push.

I agree. It's laziness and a trend.

Oh, and I am so sick of the heterosexual white male complaining about being discriminated against. You guys still hold all the power, it doesn't matter what other people think. Women and minorities have had to fight, and they still aren't as powerful as you. LGBT people are just starting.

Truth is…
A lot of people can’t spell correctly.

Some can’t even read... hence the disregard for the spell check link above the response box!

Now, I completely agree. I abhor people who are not grammatically correct. We are all civilized. Why are some of us incapable of writing in English?!?
