I have wondered the same thing myself...I'm making a pilgrimage to Sephora tomorrow and will see if the stuff really works. I have a hard time believing it myself. I can't imagine it would cover that well, and I REALLY can't imagine it not making a mess on the countertop.
Edit-I'd be happy to tell you what I think! I've been checking it out on Sephora's website.
The "foundation" is $25, and the "full coverage kabuki brush" is $28
The "mineral veil" is $20, and the "flawless application face brush" is $22
The "concealer (bisque)" isn't on Sephora's site, but the brush to apply that is $20. Assuming the bisque is around $20, that's $135 to get started. Oh, and then there's the travel compact, another $25.
They also have videos on the Sephora site. I watched the "Amazing Base" and "Bisque Away Imperfections." Not only do the applications look messy, the foundation doesn't cover a large mark on the girl's face, and I don't see any difference after she use the bisque under her eyes. I have a feeling it's a big old gimmick, but I'll let you know!

I just bought bare minerals from sephora a few weeks and I really like it. It covers quite well. I wasn't happy with the coverage under my eyes but I bought the bisque concealer and it works well. I do have to buff on a few layers with the full coverage brush but it looks very natural and feels very light. It doesn't get cakey, or fill into lines or pores like liquid makeup can.
I don't use the translucent mineral veil because it has cornstarch in it and makes my face itchy but it does make pores almost invisible.
I have heard that L'Oreal makes a version of this that is cheaper but I've also heard it has some extra or different ingredients that could make you breakout.

I haven't used the bare minerals BRAND, but, have used mineral makeup..I bought it from a maker/dealer on ebay. I LOVED the stuff. I have really oily skin, and get bad breakouts from time to time. I was thinking when I ordered it..there's NO way this will cover my red spots...but, it did. It looked great, felt great and actually helped clear up my skin. My face wasn't as oily and I even fell asleep a couple of times with it on and woke up to no new pimples! I absolutely loved it....until my skin got used to it. Then, it started acting like every other makeup..getting oily in a couple of hours, feeling heavy, etc. If you don't have an oil problem...it'd probably be great for you. It covers well, and feels great.

I have used many foundations. Bare Minerals is the best I have ever used. I have been using it for about 5 years and it is pricey, but worth it. It also last a long time.
You might want to check out - http://www.qvc.com
This is where I get mine and I think it is cheaper than the infomercial.
It does cover everything and it is not heavy.
Hope this helps.

I used Bare Minerals for about 6 months...I liked ok and it covered very good, but it caked up on my face(I have very dry skin)...however, my sister has a very acne prone, oily face and she loves it and uses it all the time and it covers very, very good for her...best of luck...we get it from www.qvc.com
