Buy a DELL dudette.....
I had a hp compaq from 1999 thru 2003
Worst support - terrible machine, The first 2 years it spent 4 months in the shop or on the ups truck and always came back with a new dent and scratches
2002 - 2006 My present Dell Gtx - runs 8-10 hrs per day and I have never called for support except for upgrades and that is easy with Dell's TAG id system Love my DELL - it is old now but I still use it everyday - win 2000 pro

Well from looking at the sources and specifications of the two machines I would agree that for only £50 more, the HP is a better peformer than the Dell and most importantly can also be upgraded. Dell is only a really good buy if you are able or have rights to have the VAT removed, if not I would stick to the HP.

Is it an HP or a Compaq? They are different, I recently talked to an HP Representative and he said that HP hasn't changed anything that Compaq is doing as far as the MFG of their Compaq line of PC's. I would opt for the Dell in this comparison simply because they have better support in my opinion than Compaq. But if the pc is an HP then I might go with the HP. Even though someone has stated on here that HP's support is based in India, I have talked to them on more than one occasion and they have handled my problems quickly and efficiently. And they only charge if the pc isn't under warranty or doesn't have the extended warranty.

my dad used to use dells for his office, and they always broke really quickly. And it happened over and over again. Dell uses really cheap parts, that's why their computers are so cheap.
I hate to break it to you but hps really are not that much better. I have a lot of friends with one, and I used to have one as well. They do last longer than dells from my experience, but still use rather cheap parts.
After having 3 windows computers stop working on me in less than three years, I gave up and got a mac because you can buy what is basically a three year warranty. Since that was longer than how long my computers lasted, I figured it would be a good idea.

Personally I would go with the compaq. It has a faster processor, a huge hard drive and compaq/hp have great support, for their products. Dell is terrible with upgrades and support. So if anything goes wrong with the dell it will be really hard to fix.

I would go for the Dell option - I have been working with Dell in the IT industry for years and have recently started using HP's. HP support is terrible. The call centres are based in india and they charge you to call them!!! Dell also make better home systems.

I dont know why all these people say the support is rubbish, ive had two dell computers, and there by far the best ive ever used. support is good, ordering upgrades is painless and simple, im just a dell junkie i think.

HP, it is more reliable. If you ever need extra parts for a dell you have to order it and wait. While an Hp parts can be bought at stores.
