My brother met a business guy in a bookstore. They exchanged calling cards. Now, the guy called him and asking to meet with him over the coffee to discuss about the business proposal. My brother asked about the business and he said it's only a small business but can't clarify on the phone. He said he needs to show brochures and stuff. My brother checked on the internet about the company but he can't find anything. I said because it's a small business. I asked him, maybe he is gay! He said no because he met with his wife and his kid and he doesn't look one. Is me and my brother being paranoid? He is asking me if he can go but I'm after his safety. Thanks!

BE CAUTIOUS. Discretion is the better part of valor. There are a number of trite cliches I could use here but I think the best one is if it sounds too good to be,true, then it probably s.

Tell your brother to make sure that NONE of his money has to leave his possession. THAT way he can make sure he does not get screwed. It is one thing to lose some time, but money hurts.

If your brother wants to investigate the opportunity, that is fine BUT DO not give any money to the guy. NONE. ZILCH. ZERO. Am I clear on the money thing?

I am in the private investment business. Here is my advice:

Run away fast and take your brother with you!

Meeting people in a bookstore is not how real businessmen raise capital.
Meeting people in a bookstore in not how real investors find good investments either.

Could be anything. The guy could be gay or he could be trying to run a scam on your brother or he could be legitimate. He should meet him in a very public place and not make any hasty decisions. Maybe you should go with him.

There is no harm in your brother meeting this guy and hearing his proposition. But he must be careful not to sign or pay anything until he gets home and sleeps on it.
After that, any agreement involving money must be in writing, with witnesses signatures.
