first of all, the sport is FOOTBALL. and zidane said he hopes he will stick to his decision about retiring.
Zidane also retired from his club career. and he will never go to Red Bulls or any team of MLS. Serie B is better than MLS
to madalina_ac:
there was no world cup in 2000. zidane initially said he would retire from international football after euro 2004

Unfortunately, he said that he will never play again. He first decided to stop playing for the national team after the 2000 WC, but it seams that he had a dream in which he was advised to go back on the field for the French team (strange, I know...).
So he decided to keep playing for Les Bleus as long as he is involved in professional football. Until the beginning of this WC, he announced that he will retire at the end of the Championship. So he won't play for Real Madrid any more.
In the interview for Chanal Plus, he said that his decision in the final one and he only intends to play football for fun, with his neighbours.

Zidane won't play professional football again. He won't play for any club anymore, and won't play for France as well. However, he might not completely out of football, yet. Maybe he will consider a career as a coach, or technical director, or staff position, like so many former players do after they end their professional career as a player.

He retired as a player. But with his leadership skills, technique and tactical ability, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a coach.
