Pat Buchanan:
"The truth is, I've gotten fairer, more comprehensive coverage of my ideas than I ever imagined I would receive." He further conceded: "I've gotten balanced coverage and broad coverage -- all we could have asked… For heaven sakes, we kid about the liberal media, but every Republican on earth does that."
10 companies own 90% of all newspapers / radio stations / and television stations: AOL/Time Warner, Disney, NewsCorp, Bartlesmann, Viacom, General Electric, Liberty News Group, AT&T, Universal/NBC, and Sony.
Conservatives will use a poll of print journalistat where 65% of them said they generally voted Democratic. What you won't use is the fact that 60% of newspaper editorial pages are conservative, how the corporate owners frequently squelch news stories critical of partner or parent companies, etc.
They have swallowed this myth so effectively and completely that they fail to see that they're own brethren are in control of the media. The media owners support the myth because it allows them to help elect the very politicians that allow them to merge and merge into fewer and fewer companies.
Don't think it's true? In 1983 the same 10 companies were 50 separate companies. Who lifted the restrictions on media ownership? Republicans.

No not totally. The media is a very general term for many specific mediums - TV newspapers, the internet, gossip, whatever - my point is that some of the media is right wing some more left wing some non-conformist it all depends on where you find it and what THEIR objectives are. the media is not liberal they have an objective - to keep the power they have. You can find english language newspapers in every country and these have websites you can access here so looking at arab abd chinese world news gives you alternative views which helps you be more objective about our own western media. Also even though there may be many TV channels and newspapers there are only a few owners so this greatly reduces the amount of opinons you are given while at the same time gives the illusion of choice and bombards you with their capitalist views (because they want to make money). Think back 9 years to the death of Diana princess of Wales, immediately after the event people were pissed off with the media - and the media could not allow this to continue - with in a week - before her funeral, the media had changed the nations focus from what the media did to what the royals weren't doing (grieving in public) people took to the streets to complain that the royals weren't grieving for them - even though they never had done this when any other royal had died - the media were responsible for this change of attention in the public mind, saving themselves. The media is a weapon too - sometimes governments use them to promote ideas or censor ideas and the law is on the governments side the media must comply (the odd playing of a censored record allows you to feel the media is on your side but reporting of classified technology never happens despite thousands of patents getting military censorship every year in the UK alone). Finally i would say when judging the media look at both the said message and the implied message - these are often different. for example last summer the news reported that there was no need to panic buy petrol yet lots of peolpe went out and bought petrol causing a shortage. the implied message was that petrol was in short supply (after all if everything is the same that is not news) but its the automatic responses to the implied message that gives the media its control. Don't belive everything and don't dismiss it all. Its always worth checking out non-comercial news as they often cover subjects missed out completely by the main stream.
To answer your question: the media is not liberal they just want you to belive it is to give more authority to itself so it can control you better. enjoy x

It doesn't matter anyway. The whole concept of conservative/liberal is just a way to manipulate your way of thinking.
Technically speaking, conservatives should seek to maintain the status quo, while liberals are in favor of change. As you can see, the soi-disant "conservatives" and "liberals" don't fit these definitions. They have mostly been used as convenient labels.
So, when someone calls the media liberal, it's usually as a means of dismissing the media without any real examples; being liberal is a good enough reason. Same thing when someone dismisses conservative talk radio (which is also a medium, but that's another inconsistency to discuss).

What media are telling you that the media are liberal? I like to read the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal and come to my own conclusions. TV news is useless, don't even bother.

As far as your question goes, yes, you can trust that. I've found that the only good source for news is FOX news. They are truly not a part of the "liberal media." FOX news is the most conservative of all the popular media channels, which is, in my eyes, a VERY good thing!

If the media is telling you the media is "liberal," doesn't that make you think that *maybe* it's a lie put out by a *conservative* media?
I mean come on.

The new (not news) media (mainly Fox News and talk radio) believe that most of the old line media outlets (CBS, NBC, ABC, NY TIme, LA Times, Etc.) are making both editorial and news decisions that are in support of the Democrats and other left-of-center organizations. I wouldn't pay much attention to blogs and sites like this one to get your news.
So, listen, read and watch to both of them and make up your own mind what makes sense.

Depends on what kind of news they are writing about. Things like political issues or historical events are of course all fact. Things like e.g. the Zidane incident many many spekulations were made. Just today though we knew for sure what insult was really made to him.....so no, cannot take the media's word literally sometimes.

The media acts as a watchdog for the government, and since the government currently is predominantly conservative, the media gets labeled as liberal for questioning the decisions of government.
As for believing it, always be skeptical of everything. look for the raw facts and decide for yourself and understand the difference between news and editorial.
