Press shift quickly five or six times in succession. That activates sticky keys.

I understand, I had the same problem ages ago, and you need to DISABLE the sticky keys prior to (before) starting the game. This can be done in the control panel, look under keybords I think, and if not, activate the sticky keys by pressing the shift key 5+ times quickly and click the link near the bottom explaining how to disable them.
