They are about the same in terms of acceleration assuming you are comparing the Escape V6 to the Explorer V8. The Explorer is truck based, so it will be tougher and better able to handle off road chores & heavy loads. But the Escape (which is car based & designed partly by Mazda) is a much better daily driver and better on gas if you don;t need the cargo or off-road capacity of the larger Explorer.
