I only saw two people who aren't retarded so far answer this question. It's not a race issue at all, if you think Bush is a racist or the right is racist you may be right but probably wrong I'm not their judge. The issue I see on a daily basis is that they are not spending the money they earn here, except for essentials. The majority of the money that they earn they are shipping back to Mexico. They are destroying our economy. Also this wouldn't be an 'issue' if they all did it leagally. You don't hear about the Chinese 'problem' or the Irish, German, Inian, etc. The problem is they are not following our laws yet they expect to be treated as Americans. If you or I broke the law we go to jail. People look at the facts. I don't have a problem with anyone trying to get a better life I just have a problem with how they are doing it....

Not really. If you mean that making immigration laws is racist, I would think not because most of the laws made on other countries should be made because illegal immigrants come from those countries the most.
However, if you are saying that immigration is a problem that exists in some races, I would say it probably is because some races are poor, and seeing the wealth of other countries, or the USA, the come over illegally to have a better future.

I swear this is the first time and last time i will ever quote Sen. Sonny Bono but when asked about his feelings in Illegal immigration he stated it perfectly. "It's Illegal".

It's not race we are worried about in America. It's the fact that we have over 8,000 illegal immigrants flooding into this country everyday. 8,000 people who don't pay taxes but receive help from tax payers.

I have no problem with people getting help from a doctor when they are hurt. I don't care who they are or where they came from. But if i could save some of that money i would love to.

I don't mind helping people with social programs. Lost your job? looking for an other? Great! The government can help you in the mean time.

But coming to my country illegally. No thanks.

Send them home with the lesson that what they did was wrong. Want to come back, do it the right way or don't bother. My great grand parents were immigrants with nothing but the shirt on their back. But they did things the right way.

I don't see hoe Mexicans have it any worse than my ancestors did. They were fleeing a war in which they lost EVERYTHING. So our good neighbors to the south can take a number just like they did.

It is a immigration issue. We have immigrants coming here legally from all over the world. The apply, wait for status and citizenship. The race factor comes into play only because Mexico borders the US. Yes we have Canadian immigrants, the come here with work permits..they are called Hockey Players

Throughout history, there have been migrations of people moving to where opportunity exists. Pretty basic stuff. People need work to live, feed their families. The current issues surrounding immigration in this country are no different, however with a few added variables:
The US and US businesses need to develop a fairer business model with Mexico that involves investment in Mexican business, education, development of infrastructure. This will begin to undo (for example) some of the damage done by the usurpation of water resources (the Colorado River).
American companies need to stop hiring illegal aliens. Belly up to the bar and start paying adequate wages, so that the argument of "these are jobs Americans don't want anyway," is seen as the transparent farce it is. These companies purposely keep wages low (but they are still high enough for illegal aliens to want to risk their lives to get).

In my view, anyone capable of surviving a trip through a scorching desert in order to provide for their families in a Third World country is someone with a high moral sense. This is the kind of stock we want in this country, but there needs to be another solution that meets the needs of American workers as well as our friends in the South.
They would not need to do this if there were opportunities in their own country. It's time we ripped the band aids off and did some real surgery to the problem.

Many people want to tag it as such. Mainly because they are race baiters and just want some illegal votes. Most Americans love the idea of immigration, as 97% of us are either an immigrant or a descendant of one. Immigration is fine with me; however, immigrants, if they want to live in America, they need to play by our rules.

You do know what happens if you go to Mexico illegally, correct? Jailed and deportation. Why do we think we should be grilled while these countries have a double standard?

On the surface, yes, it is a race issue - the same way that the influx of Italian and East European immigrants triggered a wave of xenophobia in the early 1900s (think Sacco and Vanzetti). Though America is diverse, we tend to resent whatever recent wave of immigrants is coming into "our" country.
But it's only a race issue on the surface, the same way that the black/white conflict is really only racist on the surface. It's actually about class perceptions. Mexicans, especially illegals, are seen as marked by many Americans due to their skin color, which is a signifier (to many) of their socio-economic class. We perceive them as uneducated, as ignorant, and as unable to speak English.
It's also a cultural difference, rather than than racial. Many Americans feel that Mexicans are "overrunning" our country, and fear that Spanish will become an accepted language here. Americans are big on assimilation, and they fear that Mexicans will not assimilate, and will threaten their own idea of "American" as English-speaking, white, and Protestant.
The "we support them with our tax dollars" issue is also economic and classist at heart. The same people who claim that illegals leech off our system often claim that "welfare queens" (i.e, blacks) do the same. They're the first to resent feeding and helping out the poor in America.
In short, the illlegal immigration issue isn't about race; it's about class, and about compromising what people see the idea of "American".

Not for me. This is a law and order issue plain and simple. I have answered similar questions several times here and each time, I have tried to emphasize that I don't mind any person - especially Mexicans coming to the US to work. I don't even mind if we increase numbers of work visas to the millions. I merely expect and DEMAND that everyone come here through the legal channels established by the government of the US. It is the right of every nation to control its borders. Check into the penalties for being found in Mexico illegally. If we treated illegals here like they do there, no doubt the UN, Amnesty International, and a whole plethora of others would once again denounce us as xenophobic and Nazi-like.

What issue isn't about race today? It has to do with your color, your culture or your background. It's all about people judging others for something or another. We can't get away from it. Shame because the world would be a better place without it. Then again....How are we to have a society with peace if we don't judge criminals for the bad that they do. You just can't get away from it.
