If your vision/mission statement is out ot step with your customers'/consumers' interests, then the vision/mission will not succeed.

The person making the vision/mission statement, does not want to alienate the consumer with his statement.

You don't HAVE to... but without the customer you wouldn't have a business. If your mission is to "Make a lot of money, Who gives a crud about the customer" your business won't last very long.

most businesses are selling a product or a service, and without customers/consumers, there will soon be no business
