I want to find movies on the net and then burn them onto a dvd-r. Is there anywhere I can find movies for free and after I download the movies, how do I burn them to my dvd-r. I have nero software and roxio but don't know how to do it. HELP?

Probably the easiest way for you to get movies is a peer-to-peer (p2p) network. Currently, Torrents are one of the easiest for new users to use and less spam/viruses than Limewrie or others.

First, most videos on p2p networks are not in a format that DVD players use, so you have to convert them. To keep things simple, look for .avi or .mpg files. Other files are compressed and you will need to learn to use compression software (easy to do but not on topic).

Once you think you have the movie file you want, open it on your computer and play it. If it doesn't play, you need additional codecs on your machine.

Once you can play the file on your PC, then open Nero. Make sure you have NeroVision Express (its under Application on the left menu). Start a new project and select make DVD from video file.

It will ask you for the source video file and just select it. If you get a warning the the movie is too long and Nero wants to reduce the image quality, then you have to answer Yes, or it wont fit on the DVD.

You can then create a simple menu if you like and burn it. This will probably take 2+ hours to complete.

Unless you are really into this sort of stuff, I really recommend that you get a new DVD player that plays Divx/Xvid/MPEG-4 files. These are the most common on the net and the DVD players only cost about US $50. Then all you have to do is download and burn the files as data, not DVD.

Please note that most of the movie files that you might want to download are illeagal. However, there are TONS of free, legal videos out there as well. Only you can decide whats right for you.

In terms of finding movies, everyone who's answered so far is correct. For the most part, the exchange of copyrighted motion pictures is illegal. However, there are movies that can be legally exchanged and downloaded. Home movies for example and several independent movies like Star Wreck.

In order to burn a movie to DVD media it has to be re-encoded. The easiest software I've come across that lets you do that is Avi2DVD. It takes a AVI, DivX or Xvid file and creates an ISO that you can easily burn to a DVD-R with Nero.

Well kid you see it's illegal. If you can get some help eslwhere from someone else then that's great, but don't ask for help over the internet because you shouldn't be burning movies anyway. Just go rent them, use Netflix or Blockbuster, or go on one of those site (Google it), just like illegal downloading music site, there are also illegal movie sites.
