The best team at this time in the NFC North is Chicago - reasons why are as follows:
Offense: Grossman's durability is under question, so the team picks up Brian Griese as a backup. With either QB taking snaps, this bodes extremely well for the WR corp, looking to give Muhsin a revival and players like Mark Bradley, Airese Currie, and Bernard Berrian a chance to shine. Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson both have the talent to vamp the Bears' rush offense to its second consecutive 1000+ season. In fact, Jones could hold off Benson for the starting position and show why he should be considered a feared RB. Benson will still get his carries in as well as Adrain Peterson, who provides a change of pace necessary for these two runners. During the off season, they have worked hard on bulking their offense up to match their defensive efforts. And as for those dumping on Orton, where were all the naysayers when he was winning games (8 in a row, which I believe was better than any other starting rookie QB except Ben Roethlisberger in 2004)? Chicago finally has a deep and solid QB corps, which should take some stress off of this unit.
Defense: All starters are returning plus they added Ricky Manning Jr. from Carolina and used the draft to iron out some wrinkles for their secondary. Urlacher, Briggs, and Hillenmeyer will lock down the middle of the field, while Alex Brown, Ogunleye, Harris, and Scott will lock down the front line. Vasher and Tillman will definitely benefit from the recent additions, but they will show opposing offenses that their presence should never be taken lightly. Defensively, they are even hungrier and nastier than before, especially after the 29-21 playoff loss ... they want revenge.
Special Teams: Alex Bannister has left the Seahawks and is now a Bear. Bannister bolsters what many consider to be the weakest link on this team. Berrian and Davis now have Hester added to their ranks, which makes this part more dangerous.
The other three teams are stil questionable in too many areas to be considered as NFC Champions, nor has any of their defenses been able to measure up. Chicago will take the NFC North and even repeat their accomplishments with a first-round BYE in the playoffs.

Chicago remains the team to beat in the NFC North. Even without a great O that D will win them games. Lions are on the upswing but still not there. Vikes and Packers are declining

Right now, its' Da Bears. Strong defense & a good running game will get you far in the NFL. I'm not convinved Rex Grossman will ever be a good starter, but they have late bloomer Brian Griese now as his back up.
The Lions keep showing promise (and do again this season), but have failed to live up to that promise. Maybe a change in QB will do it, but it's hard to get excited about Kitna, McCown and Orlovsky. Their defense is good, but just a touch under the Bears overall right now. The Lions need to prove they can put it all together.
The Vikings loaded up in free agency & are a wild card to win the division. They have a capable QB in Brad Johnson & a big corps of above-average RBs and WRs. They certainly have all the O-line they could ever wish for now, and their defense is, at minimum, not a liability. Getting all this new blood to gel will be a challenge.
The best I can say about the Packers right now is that they had a great draft this year. Otherwise, they're a mess & must begin the rebuilding stage in earnest.

Chicago Bears. it is a very weak division with only one team i see going over .500. The Bears should end up with a first-round bye in the playoffs again because of their schedule - the get to play the weakest division from last year (NFC West) and the Lions, Packers, and Vikings all twice.

The Detroit Lions. As of now, every Detroit team either is leading their sport by record or lead their sport's record in the regular season (Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers). The other thing is they all got new coaches this year, so the Lions will surprise like the Tigers and be no different (F. Saunders, Babcock, J. Leyland, R. Marinelli). In addition, the Lions no longer have Harrington and they have Martz. Last, they have discipline like the motor city sports should, so the Lions are the best.

Vikings are the best team in the north, because they finally have a coach that knows how to utilize the talent, as well as a defensive coordinator that was a coach with one of the greatest defenses of all time, the Tampa cover 2.

I belelive right now it has to be the Chicago Bears. They returmned all 22 starters from last year and added depth to their secondary on defense, Not to mention having a healthy Cedric Benson , Mark Bradley and Bernard Berrian. They are also in a division that recently every team switched head coaches besides them. So every other team will be getting comfortable in their new systems.
