Did anyone notice in the episode "Mr. Monk and the Actor" which aired this last week, that there was a very naughty word used? It was right at the beginning when the camera fell out of the bears head. When the guy tried to grab the camera away from the girl he said, "Give me the g**damn camera." I was shocked and played it back with the closed captioning on and sure enough....that's exactly what he said. Anyone else bothered by this? I think I'll write a letter to the producers.

I'M NOT TRYING TO SENSOR ANYTHING. I'M ALL FOR FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I'M JUST A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED THAT THAT PARTICULAR WORD HAD TO COME OUT ON ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS. THE ONLY ONE TO CATER TO FOLKS WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE LANGUAGE IN ENTERTAINMENT CLEANED UP A LITTLE IS GEORGE LUCAS. THERE WAS A 'HELL' AND A 'DAMN' USED IN THE FIRST STAR WARS MOVIE. HE WENT ON TO MAKE 5 MORE MOVIES WITH NOT ONE BAD WORD IN THEM. WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT THAT. EVEN THE REMAKE OF KING KONG CHOSE TO INCLUDE SOME COLORFUL LANGUAGE AND BACK IN THE TIME WHEN THE MOVIE IS SET IN...THEY DIDN'T USE THAT KIND OF LANGUAGE- NOT TO THE EXTENT THAT IT'S ACCEPTED TODAY! DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE TAINTED WITH FOUL LANGUAGE?

My mother used to tell me that the words you use are a sign of the level of your intelligence. That if all you can use are other peoples bad words, your vocabulary is small and you have no imagination.

I not only find bad language offensive to me and my children, but an insult to my intelligence. And it shows a lack of creativity on the part of the writers.

There is a book called Ereth's Birthday. The main character, a very grumpy porcupine uses one string of exclamations after another, without ever using a bad word.

The author, Avi, is very imaginative and I think it is wonderful that he shows how one can express oneself creatively, even when perturbed. It is a great example for children and I think adults could learn a thing or two from it as well.

I would love to see this kind of creativity in our grown up shows.

I didn't get to see that 'Monk', but I am surprised. I see Monk as being a character who would find bad language very flustering. I assume it didn't happen in front of him. I would think the writers would have had him make some kind of remark about it. His character is just way to proper and intense to let something like that slide. Obsessive - compulsive aside. If that were to happen in front of him. I could see him stuttering a little and then in a very shy, innocent way, cutting them to the bone.
Without uttering one - single - bad - word.

I have a challenge for everyone who reads this, who uses bad language -

Can you go the entire day without using bad words?

How about the entire week?

A month?

A lifetime?

Do you really need those words in your life, do they make your life better?

I'll let you off easy and you can get creative and say something witty instead.

I saw the episode.. good freakin show.. yes I thought I heard the same line too..was a lil surprised but not taken back as much as you may have been..with it being on a cable channel..and I do believe more of the serious cop shows and of course cant 4get Dennis Leary's show.. There is worse playing.. but yes.. at that time of night I know my kids are not watching and I as a grown up can handle it from time to time..even all the crap that comes out of Dennis' mouth.. but if I couldnt.. I would then change the channel.

Post note.. after reading you additional details /comments that u recently provided.. I must agree with you on your last point..and answer YES -our society as I've seen it - has become "tainted"..by the increase of foul language and much more negative images.. that we've seen in the media in politics, in
Hollywood, or as well on our city's streets..
I will even agree further that as a whole, our society for whatever reasons, By way of evolving- into a society that has become too tolerant of the increased Violence, Vainness, Selfishness..
This may be all the reason most people's tolerance has been increased so much.. we are becoming immune.. I myself guilty at times of succumbing to it..
But yet like yourself --must remind my self, my children where to draw the line to the tolerance level...

I did not see that episode, but I am also very distressed. You should write a letter to the producers, and the sponsers of the commercials.I doubt that it bothered many other people, but I would enjoy at least 1 decent television show.Monk is one of the last television shows that I and many other friends of mine enjoy.Good luck, and thankyou for bringing this problem to mind!I will also write!

It's not a naughty word for an adult but little ones need not say it if they are saying such things as butthead, buttface, stinky butt, etc. It's not ladylike, even for a three year old, & now is when you teach her that. Explain to her that saying her butt hurts, etc. is okay but it's not okay to use it when calling a person a name. Young children hear so much from adults & other children, whose parents aren't careful what they say around their children.

get a life. people like you that get offended at the least little thing are what is wrong with America. there is a button on your TV to turn it off and another to change the channel. learn how to use them. if you are offended by language, watch ABC Family or Disney-they are more suited to your mentality, Mr Vanity.

What? You have got to be kidding me. I did hear it and wasn't offended at all. God, they are just words, thats all. Words. The only thing that makes words bad or "naughty" as you say is society. They are just words as is GOD and car and mouth. Just words. Man, some people get offended by the dumbest things.

Yes, I noticed. So -- considering some of what I've heard coming out of the mouths of comedians on prime time lately, this is SO tame. When Seinfeld can say the *v* word . . . ? Ease up!

There are MUCH naughtier words than that. Kids hear a whole lot worse than that every day in nearly every surrounding.

If you want my opinion, I say get over it. There are too many much more tragic things to worry about. I don't think anyone was too traumatized over that one. Sorry...
