I like soccer don't get me wrong but its too low scoring to really catch on...American's have short attention spans and Football fills that gap perfectly...If you keep having scoring in football people are constantly excited....in soccer you could wait around an entire game for something to happen.

27 years, 4 months, six days, 5 hours and 48 minuets from ....NOW!
OK, serious answer. The USA has a huge infrastructure built around (American) football. Billions of dollars are spent annually on high school, college & pro-football.
Soccer is begining to catch on here. There are some college and professional teams now, where there were virtually none 20 years ago. So, as more people play soccer, watch soccer and it gets the kind of commercial success that football gets. Things will change.
OK, maybe my first line wasn't a joke after all...

Well you can't really say that soccer is better than football but you can't say football is better than soccer. Each takes alot of physical strength and mental strength. It's just that football has more appeal over here. Think about how America is in the world status. Big, beefy, and kinda domineering, so it's only natural that America loves football, it's men showing other men not only how much they can pummle them but also how quicker and sharper they are. Hell the only difference in soccer and football is violence and how it's played, other than that it takes about the same strength to play each sport.
I would guess America will catch on as the younger generation grows up because that is where that "catch" is.
P.S. Personally I prefer soccer over football, faster pace.

Soccer being better than football is a matter of opinion. In many other countries of the world soccer ("football") is the past-time as baseball is in the states. The reason why American football is so popular is mainly due to the commercialization of the sport. If soccer was to get the same amount of sponsorship as football received then it would definitely be a more popular and lucrative sport. However, one is not better than the other.

Oh, great, another "soccer is superior" post from someone who has no idea about the skills and tactics involved in American football.
As for the guy who said that you just have to be a big caveman to play American football, well, you're an idiot for thinking that. Do you have any idea how difficult it is for a lineman? Do you know how many plays each team has, and how complicated some blocking schemes can be?
Another moronic question, and one that will be eaten up by those who have no understanding of American football. Whichever sport you think is better is your own opinion, but to disparage American football is just plain stupid.

I can answer that in one word....NEVER. US football players earn millions for the most part while US soccer players earn around $20,000 in the MLS. If I was a child looking to join a sport when I was older, why would I pick soccer when I can make more money and get more attention in football? Due to the major sports (baseball, football, basketball, and yes hockey), soccer will never be big here in the States.

I think that you should rephrase your question. Football here is a religion. Just like soccer may be a religion in your country. I personally love soccer. So, why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't we just recognize both as great, entertaining sports. I will also tell you that soccer, internationally has limited media coverage here. OH! What I would do to watch the English, the SPanish, and the Mexican leagues. I love it.

Americans who like american football are really ignorant. american football is such a horrendous sport and sucks!!!
American football shouldn't be deserved to be call football because there just one real football which is SOCCER. American football is the fake football. that's how I distinguish soccer from american football.
Soccer- the real football
American football- the fake football
Soccer will always be way better than american football because it's the most popular sport in the world. I'm sorry for you american football fanatics because you might be jealous about that.

unfortunately, americans are used to watch passtimes and not sports, as is the case of baseball (most boring game ever, no action whatsoever) and basketball ( the last 2 minutes are usually the most exciting ones) an exeption, football, which i really like... ...probably over the time, if the mls start getting better players, and more money to go up against the "big leagues" then and only then, they would put more emphasis on the sport. for now, no money - no attention. nowadays, is not about the love of the sports, but about tv ratings and money...........
