I was wondering if anyone has this and if you do, how it affects your life? Does it affect your chances to get pregnant? I am going to the doctor next week but was wondering what it does. Thank you for your input.

Back in 2001, I was diagnosed with Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. My ovaries were covered with cysts. My GYN, informed me that he could do laproscopic surgery to remove the cysts but as bad as mine were the chances that the cysts would reappear in 3 months was 90%. This was very disturbing to me. I had the choice to have this surgery but if they came back I would have to have it done again & possible again & again depending if they kept forming, this was my only assurance of having a baby. He told me of a patient that did do this. Every 3 to 4 months her cysts kept coming back & she repeated the surgery for a little over a year and she finally made the decision that I had to make and that was a hysterectomy. So as you can tell it can affect your chances of getting pregnant. Have you had a pelvic ultrasound yet to find out how bad the PCOS is?? If you don't have that many cysts then it is possible having the laproscopic surgery could help you in becoming pregnant.

My sister suffers from this condition. She's been married for 2 years now but still have no children yet. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome causes you to have irregular menses (e.g. once every 3-4 months), sudden weight gain & increase body hair. Yes, it affects your chances to get pregnant. Seeing the doctor might help if you really want to have a baby, or regulate your menses.

I have it.

It affects me a lot. I have a lot of constant pain that was kind of under control for a while, but the last few weeks got really bad again.

There are also a lot of weird side effects. I have not really had a whole lot of those myself, but they are out there. Things like hair loss, but an increase of hair on the face. Women who have this usually also have diabetes, but I do not. I'm weird because blood tests and my age and weight give no indicator that I have it, but when you look at my ultra sounds I have a very severe case of it.

As for fertility, I haven't tried having kids yet. But I was told my chances are very small and that the younger I am when I try the better chances I wil have. How it effects fertility is that the cysts prevent you from ovulating.

Good luck
