I'm cracking up at the different answers I've received already. I am 32 and have what I think are hazel eyes, but in recent years, I've had people give me all sorts of different definitions of hazel, thus making me question my own "eye status." After talking with other "hazel eye" friends, I realized they've encountered the same confusion/difference of opinion. In an effort to put an end to this debate, I've scoured the web for an "official" answer, but in the end , I was unsuccessful and I've decided to pose this question to you. Maybe we can get a consensus. Hazel eyes, unite!

Green eyes with a brown ring are classed as GREEN. Hazel eyes are light brown with no green, hazel comes from the word hazelnut which is light brown. I don't understand where this hazel term comes from!

I have brown and green (hazel). Sometimes the brown is more prominent and vice versa. The brown is like a star around my pupil. It s weird cause my dad has green eyes and my mom has brown and my sister has pure blue eyes.

My son has hazel eyes. Sometimes they look green, sometimes they look light brown. I just looked at them and they look light brown with a ring of green around them.

My husband has green eyes and they really are green. No brown in them at all.

Hazel is kind of an in-between color. It can be several things, greenish brown, green mixed with brown, blue mixed with brown...

my eyes have always been considered hazel. sometimes my eyes look green, sometimes they look brown, and then sometimes they look greeny-brown. but i think that the actually definition of "hazel" eyes is two colours together, i just think that green-brown is more common so thats what we associate with the term "hazel"
