Not at all. If you're British, check out any Florida holiday brochure. All of them will tell you

(a) how much a shuttle bus / taxi to the hotel would cost
(b) which hotels offer FREE shuttles to attractions
(c) how near you are to the International Drive Trolley (=Tram) line

Lots of hotels offer shuttles to either all the Disney places or all the Universal attractions - some offer both, and it's all free, so you never need to drive. I actually think this idea is preferable - saves you parking fees / the hassle of driving yourself.

If you stay in a Universal Hotel they have free on-site transportation including water taxis. At Disney hotels you also get free on-site transportation.

The trolley service runs up and down I-Drive too, and doesn't cost more than a few dollars, so is well worth considering - takes you to the shops and the eateries and beyond.

Although fly-drive packages include a car as standard some will let you trade it for airport transfers - if not, it costs from about £20 per person, or from £100 for a stylish Limo that seats half a dozen of you.

Definitely look into it - I think Orlando's somewhere well worth seeing, and there's no reason to avoid it because of the driving issue.

You can really do either, it just depends on your preference and how much you want to spend. Personally, I always fly. I feel like if you drive, you are tired before you even start your vacation, which isn't fun.

When I fly, I always get a rental car. I usually take a private transfer to the hotel and then pick up the car a little later. If you are staying onsite, it is pretty easy to get around to the parks and things. If you are wanting to go to other malls, restaurants, etc. you should rent a car. A few trips, in some cases only one, in a taxi can pay for the car.

If you are staying offsite and plan to go to the parks and things, then you should rent a car. Offsite transportation can be really slow and you could lose a good part of your time in the parks going between.

It is nice to have a car, but not completely needed. So, if you want to fly and don't really plan to go to a lot of places in Orlando other than the transportation provided by your hotel, you can save a few hundred dollars and not rent a car.

If you can afford it I strongly recommend you FLY. Orlando has a big international airport (airport code: MCO), just pick the airline of your choice and of you go to Orlando! Its pretty much your personal preference whether you prefer to fly or drive. Checkout the official Orlando visitors bureau website filled with lots of good info and you can order a free vacation planning kit:

We,ve been 8 times and if you want to get around you have to hire a car. Once you get the hang of it I find it a most enjoyable part of the holiday. You may want to visit the Kennedy Space Centre or take a trip to Busch Gardens or visit a beach on the Gulf coast so a car is really essential.

If you really don,t want to drive your best bet is to stay on International Drive where you can walk to various restaurants on a night and hop on board a bus to many of the attractions. Hope this helps

We had the same dilemma, We could drive which would take about 10 hours and is a little cheaper or fly for 2 hours and is more convenient. We decided to fly.

If WDW is your destination, you can easily do without the car. Stay in a medium to high grade WDW hotel (not economy) and your hotel 'convenience store' will have anything you may have forgetten to bring from home, plus convenience store foods. You can get anywhere within WDW using the free (to hotel guests) Disney Transportation System. If you stay at Fort Wilderness, you can rent bicycles or a golf cart to get around within the Wilderness area. (Note, this is not anything like a real wilderness. Room service will deliver cocktail to people camping in tents!)

You can do either. Orlando has a major airport if you dont like to drive. If you stay at Disney they have a free shuttle bus also.

Of course you don't have to do fly drive, what about the people who can't drive? can they not go to Florida?

There are buses from most hotels to the theme parks, and you have to pay to park in them anyway. You do get a bit stuck in one place if you don't have a car though as it is a humongous place.

I would advise getting a car.

You could take a train or a bus? Rent a limo for a day and go in style! Cost just as much as a plane ticket these days!

It deepens on where you live, it you are close enough I have a feeling you could walk or ride a bike. But you don't have to go if you don't want to, that is up to you.
