Around 3-5 months they will start babbling. They usually make the dada sound first because it is easier. It may or may not be in related to acutally seeing daddy.

It depends on what you mean... If you mean when does a baby say the *sounds* mamamama or dadadada, then the answer is very young--almost from birth. But I assume you mean "When does a baby say the *words* mama or dada?"
On average, a baby says her/his first word between 9 and 18 months old. But most parents will tell you that their child spoke much earlier than that. They are *wrong*!! A baby doesn't have the mental development necessary to actually say words until they are well past 6 months old... A baby who said their first word at 6 or 7 months old would have a 250 word vocabulary by the time they were 18 months old--when's the last time you saw a child like that?!

Most baby magazines & babycenter.com says that they can start mimicing mama and dada at approximately 4 months old (altho they don't know what they're saying).
Out of a poll of over 100,000 parents over 77% of babies said their first mama or dada by 8 months of age. With 14% of them at 5 months or younger.

A baby will begin to make babbling sounds very early although they won't make the conenction with words and using words until much later. My daughter is 8 months old and she isn't speaking yet. From what I understand after 10 months they can begin to talk and then they never stop!

I am not sure. My babysitter kept telling me when my son was five months old, he would say mama and dada. I never heard him say it though. The first words I heard coming out his mouth was "F-you" to his dad one day while we were taking pictures of him. He was six months old.

probably because those are the two words they hear the most. I think new parents are ansty to hear the first mom or dad that they condition the baby to say that first. And not all babies start off saying that first it's just what u see on tv to make u believe that. IMO
oh oops I read the question wrong rotflmbo!!!!!

All children develop differently. Some will start at around a year, some at 18 months. If they aren't saying a few simple words by 18-20 month, you might get their hearing checked.
