No, it is not the same thing.
As has been pointed out by other correspondents, Britain is nation made up of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
I am English, but my nationality is British. And so is the nationality of the Scots, the Welsh and the northern Irish whether they like it or not.
