I come from a family of Iraqi Jews who only left iraq a few decades ago. A american cousin of mine will be taking his first Iawo Test soon, and one of his clssmates told him that they ask for ethnicity. What should he answer? We're not arabs...

iraqi jews are a separate ethnicity from the others in the region. there was virtually no intermarriage, and we lived there since 2000 years ago, until the new governments funded pogroms and my parents were forced to leave

Ethnicity questions are OPTIONAL. If he is concerned, tell him that he doesn't have to answer at all.
The actual answer would be something in the area of
Middle Eastern.
They are not asking for where you were born, or what religion, but what Ethnicity - which is the type of people from whom you are decended. In the US, these questions are OPTIONAL and can be answreed or left unanswered.

Say you are your father ethnicity... In my country, we just say it, children are their dad ethnicity. It really helps when you are born in Russia (you are a russian by nationality), your dad is a South African and your mom a Kenyan. Then you got 3 nationalities and you have to choose sometimes LOL

Wouldn't you be Middle Eastern? The fact that you're Jewish is irrelevant. That's a religion, not an ethnicity.
