It shouldn't be allowed. Free Use Act in the USA allows us to do what we want with it.

If you're referring to the newest sort of copy protection (the kind that installs rootkits on your computer), it should be stopped from a purely ethical standpoint. Essentially, these discs place monitors on your computer that spy on certain aspects and report the information back to the parent companies. As well, any CD with copy protection does not legally qualify as an actual CD, nor should it. A copy protected "CD" is created to be non properly functional, and as quick research can show very simple methods of disabling the protection, such discs are more easily prone to breakage from scratches, fingerprints, and surface scuffs. As well, the discs never contain the music at high fidelity due to the engineering of the actual format, even though the audio on it may or may not be remastered. As non copy protected alternatives to most albums exist in other regions, more people should lobby against the record labels that are doing this. The ethics are fine but the music suffers and as people can bypass the protection anyhow, why should the audiophiles suffer? If you can get better sounding songs via download, why purchase the tangible disc?

My opinion is that it is there for a reason. I buy a CD and play it, but I know I shouldn't copy and share or sell the copies. As long as the music plays, why worry about it?

fine with me. If I want a cd I buy it, so I don't care that it can't be copied.
