I have been with my company for 3 yeas now. The first year I was given a 3.5% increase on my pay, last year 2.5% ( and I was out for 6 months, and came back a week before evaluations on maternity leave) then this year I got 1%!!!!!!!! 1%!!!!
Should I feel insulted, or is a 1% increase good?? I totaled it up, and it gives me an extra 280.00 per year!! That doesnt even cover gas to do all the running around I do for this place!!
What do you think I should do?? Say something or not.

Be grateful that you got a raise. The last office that I worked in was only able to give about 1/2 of the staff a raise the last couple of years that I was there. Some people who got raises were getting 10 or 25 cents an hour. Some people who had been with the company for many years were getting nothing. There just wasn't any more in the budget for salary increases.

How is your company doing? When my jobs increases slowed down it was because they did not have the money to increase it a whole lot. Are you getting any other benefits....Health care, paid vacations. If you are concerned ask your human resource department if the company is happy with your work performance and if that is the reason behind the low raise or if the company decided to give lower raise rather than to lay off people. Money is tight for everyone and businesses are hurting too. But when you ask be polite and kind to the person you are asking and don't take it personally.

The percent you received may not reflect your performance, but may be a function of how well or poorly the company is doing. Your finance & HR dapartments set the budget for raises, and if the pool for raises is only 0.5% and you got 1%, then you got more than most. It's all relative. WIth many companies downsizing or having salary freezes, some may argue that you're lucky to have a job. So, don't assume it's an attack without knowing all the facts.

Well, if for the half of the year you weren't even there what will they evaluate of your performance when you didn't even did any work for six months? I think you are just being over sensitive. You chose to take time off for maternity (I know its sad but having a baby is a choice you make and there are professional consequences for it) Actually you should be happy they gave you any increase at all.

It depends. If it offends you and you believe you deserve more, say something to the parties invloved that put money into your account. Ask other staff if what percentage increase they got on their 3rd year.
I don't think it is an insult but I'm not the one getting only 1 percent extra this year :)

You could ask if there is a reason, if it is your performance or something else, like less budget money for increases. Don't bother to feel insulted. Maybe you should ask for reimbursement for your use of personal vehicle? That would be another way of getting an increase. you should not have to use personal vehicle/money to do your job unless that was known up front (like pizza delivery)

I would ask WHY. Some companies give raises reflecting your job performance, while others give raises according to the areas cost of living or based on their over all profits for the year.

well take into consideration the amount of past increases....also do some self evaluation.....maybe you do not deserve as big a raise you have received in the past
also your company may be experiencing some financial struggle themselves
stop doing the "running around" for them

Find out why you got the 1% increase. There may be a valid reason. Also be happy you got an increase....some place don't even give their workers $0.50 increase.

If they don't value your employment, then start looking elsewhere.
Also, if you do a lot of 'running around' you should be getting reimbursed for that.
If not, save your receipts and be sure to claim them as deductions as 'unreimbursed business expenses' on your federal taxes (you have to itemize deductions to be able to do this).
