Love is an emotion, which like all emotions, is rooted in evolutionary psychology. It serves to keep small groups (usually geneticly related) together for the purpose of mutual aid.

I'm very sure that they do, quite certain in fact. I haven't heard the "I can't see God" excuse in a loooooooong time, so I don't think it plays into that. Most Atheists I know don't have enough proof to believe there is a God, and those are their reasons, it's not about whether they can see him or not, because there are a lot of feelings you can't feel besides love. If that was the case, should they disregard fear?
