I'm not sure what the becalmed refers to. However, I am personally on Strattera, which is a non-stimulant ADHD drug, so it might be close. It's hard for me to judge personally how well it works, but family and friends do notice a difference when I'm on it and when I'm not.
Just to counter-point another answer, it is not just in the mind. I managed to graduate from college and attend graduate school long before my diagnosis. The symptoms where there, but they were offest by raw intellectual talent. However, in graduate school I hit the proverbial brick wall and was unable to do anything non-structured. Unfortunately, it is a medical condition, but that has the bright side of the condition being treatable, at least in terms of symptoms. There is a mental aspect, so the other answer isn't totally incorrect.

I'm ADHD and I went through College without meds and Graduated I'm a nurse. I came to conclusion it is MIND OVER MATTER.
