I just did this over the weekend. There are some tools you can get to do this, but here are the basics:
Plug your iPod in via USB and use it as a storage drive, not as an iPod. (If you have iTunes already installed on the new machine, then answer No when it asks if you want to synch).
Double-click on My Computer and you should see the iPod as a removable storage device.
Double-click on the iPod and you will see your folders.
Go to Tools -> Folder Options on the menu bar up top and set your view to show hidden folders and files. You will now see the ipod_control folder. This contains all your songs (among other things).
Copy this folder to your hard drive somewhere. It would be a REALLY good idea to make a second copy of this folder NOW and compress it (zip it). If things get messed up, you can always copy this back to your iPod and start over.
Now start iTunes and search for music and point to the ipod_control folder you copied. This will import all your music to iTunes.
***Important***
You now need to log into your iPod account account and then try to play a song that you have purchased. This will initiate the authorization process and verify your licenses.
Now you are ready to synch your iPod. Answer Yes this time when prompted.
******
Using this method, you will lose your playlists, but your music will be intact.
There are programs out there that will do this for you, but the solution above is free. All depends on if you want to spend the money.

Sorry to say but I think that's impossible.
When the music is transferred to the ipod its converted into a ipod extension and can only be read by ipod.
The advice I can think is, when you have your ipod connect to the computer go a folder on your computer and on tools go to the folder options - choose to show occult folder or files. Then in your ipod it will be visible the folder where you have all your musics in that extension. My advice is save that folder/folders in your computer and when you loose then on the ipod at least now you have the backup.

Apple made the ipod so music cannot be transfered to a PC, copyright and legal stuff.........that is why when you buy songs and videos from itunes, they tell you to back up your stuff.

You don't have to have a special program, I've done it by just opening up my music files on my ipod... to tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure what I did was legal so...

Plug the device into the computer.
go to 'my computer'
Find the device and select it. This will let you into the memory of your i-pod. Then simply copy and past them to your hard drive.
