Usually a younger, beautiful woman. She is there for the status of the man who keeps her. She makes him the envy of his contemporaries. It's kind of like having a Ferrari or a nice beach house. An "ultra-attractive" female companion shines the light on the "success" of the man who holds her. This phrase usually applies to a retired, divorced man, in his 50s or 60s when they are married to a 25-35 year old swimsuit model type.

Just like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, a trophy wife is anyone you see as beautiful inside and out and don't mind showing her off and bragging on her. A trophy wife doesn't dress a certain way or look a certain way, it is just someone you exalt in your own eyes.

Nah. When a successful man--I mean filthy rich--gets into his 40s or 50s, he dumps his wife, who has been aging right along with him, and gets a beautiful young wife who is probably, though not necessarily, in it for the money, just as he is in it for the looks and validation. She is his trophy wife. That is the only usage of the term.

Are you serious? Well a trophy wife is extremely attractive and is taken around for show...The guy may not look as good or may not be very successful..but the fact that he scored some hot babe and married her...well..that's pretty much a trophy to show...so there you go......

typically a SUPER hot female married to a guy. my opinion is that he is JUST with her for her looks. she may or may not be intelligent, but in my experience with guys who are in these marriages - the girls are ditzes. all looks, no brains.
think...nick lachey/jessica simpson. altho nick is hot, too... jessica would be a trophy wife.
