Nah. It's considered an acceptable fashion accessory for any man. Pierced ears for men started with sailors, you know. If their ship sank and their body washed up on shore, the gold earring could be used to pay for their burial.
There's Jimmy Smits, as someone mentioned, and Ed Bradley, of all people, a journalist with 60 Minutes, also has a pierced ear.
Your dad is just looking out for you, and he's probably a bit over-protective and old-fashioned. You could be asking to pierce a lot worse things.

LOL NO - Ear piercing has nothing to do with it. Way back in the 80's it was considered a 'symbol' of homosexuality (as in a way to recognize other gay people) but now a days MANY heterosexual men have their ears peirced.

These days, it has nothing to do with homosexuality.

Now as far as drugs, you father probably thinks that ear piercing is a sign of 'rebellion' but that doesn't mean it has anything to do with drugs. A lot of people get their ears pierced as a sign of individuality and self expression.

Your father sounds like and old school, close minded, bible thumper. There's nothing wrong with that but he's teaching you hatred and that's not good. You need to be open minded and make judgements based on people, not on appearances.

As far as drug use goes, my upstanding, straight laced, non-pierced or tattooed DOCTOR was abusing drugs, both prescription and street drugs. So appearance isn't everything.

He's living in the past, not that I disagree with him. I think it's strange myself. One day maybe men will wear skirts and panty house and be straight and eveyone will think it's cute and mascluine.

This pearcing thing bothers me and a lot of older people. I always said the young will adopt strange habits that will cause a generation gap, even in me, liberal as I am and it happened.

I belive not. Ofcourse there's always that saying that, "left is right and right is wrong" meaning if you pierce your left ear, you're save and strait, if you pierce your right ear, you're gay. I think your father is just telling you this to scare you or wane you away from guys with ear piercings. Also it may just be your dad's view of the world.
