Okay, thanks to my last question and the answers received here, I have created and choosen my Avatar. It shows up, now, when I log in for my email. But I still have a blank grey box when I answer or post a question here. Anyone know how I can fix that, so that my Avatar pic shows up next to my post?

Click on your hyerlinked name or default picture. Then click on MY Q&A above your profile and default picture. You should have an EDIT MY INFO link next to your profile. Then click it and then it will let you pick your avatar as your default picture. Choose "Avatar" as your picture option, then hit preview. Then click submit.
In your Q&A, you will see your list of questions. You should try and pick best answer next time for the person who helped you so that you can get some extra points =)

You might want to go to "My Q&A" and select "Use Avatar".
It happened to me, too.
All the changes are saved there.

did you pick the choice to use my avatar,in the edit my profile page,check again to make sure you did.
