No that quote is quite accurate to this administation. I really wonder what happened to a government of, by, and for the people. We are being ruled as if it is "government in spite of the people" and that is just wrong.

This isn't simply a matter of the arrogance of the current administration as some would like to think. It is a matter of monopoly. The GOP controls all three branches of government and has redrawn voting districts to be certain that incumbents are almost impossible to defeat. Absolute power always corrupts absolutely. The real answer is to make certain no political party has 100% control.
I recall the days when AT&T was the only phone company in the United States. Telecom worker's union members in the Northwest, after a bad round of contract negotiations, put bumper stickers on their cars that read, "We're AT&T: We Don't Care...We Don't Have To!" And that is the situation today in our political system. Any monopoly of power doesn't care what the opposition thinks because it doesn't have to.

That quote is very wrong. This administration is doing what it feels is the best thing for the country. Most people that complain are either motivated purely by partisanship or ignorance. It's not that they won't listen to anyone, it's that they don't listen to people that don't deserved to be listened to. For example, let's say you have 4 children, and some teenager with no children starts questioning how you raise them. You won't listen to them, not because you are stubborn or arrogant, but because the person doing the questioning doesn't know what they are talking about so there is no reason to listen to them.

Because we are fools. How many people at the last election did you speak to who would vote Labour. I bet few, yet they did and Labour won. The moment they are in power they will say "We the people put them there" so they do what they think is right for us. Dave is going the same way when 99% of the country want hoodie gangs sorted he wants to give them a hug. Politicians always know better than us.

I would say that is where we are right now also! Sad state of affairs.
to SCOTTfl they do use the polls, but thats not for our good that is for their re-election. And you have noticed that GWB numbers are in the basement, so have they. All of a sudden his Conservative friends are saying I don't agree to distance themselves from him.

I think that sums up most politicians today. Fortunately, we have a government structure that was intended to get everyone listened to and formulate compromises that everyone will be okay with. We need to get back to it.

I don't think so.
I have a lot of disagreement with governments - this one or the past ones - but I don't think they "don't care" what we think. Sometimes, I think they care too much about what we think, and design their policy based on polling numbers, which is foolish and dangerous.

No, that's pretty much right on target. And regardless of who said it or the context, the meaning applies to both extremes of our political "system" left and right.

I'd say so, yeah. It's definitely a, "do as I say, not as I do," attitude in Washington, DC, these days.
