This is perhaps the choice between brains and brawn. I know that you can have handsome intelligent men or ugly dumb ones but i think they are rare. Also, you ask the same question and transpose women/men.

Neither really. Either is a bit crap. If forced to choose I would go for ugly and intelligent because having nothing to talk about would pall really quickly, no matter how pretty they are!

That's funny. I think power and brains are a powerful aphrodisiac, so the smarter women will naturally choose the branier guys. You have to live with someone for the rest of your life, and once the romance has worn off a bit you need to have something in common with each other.
Of course, if you are a woman who is a slave to her sexual whims, then you'll probably end up with a stupid pretty boy who cheats on her and develops a huge beer belly in mid-life. Also, a lot of women don't like guys who are too beautiful, as they might be gay.
As a general rule, a good percentage of the men who are worth considering are already taken by the age of 30. Most women don't want a guy that no other woman wants.
Then there are women who don't care because they just think all guys are stupid jerks. They are just digging for the gold. What a waste!

Some comedian once said and I would have to agree with his quote "You can fix ugly but you can't fix stupid..." So I would have to say I would rather have an ugly intelligent man over a fit handsome one. After awhile a pretty face gets boring. If someone can carry on a great conversation, is able to enlighten you with knowledge, reading together, exploring new avenues with you, or hobbies that he has developed an interest in and he shares these with you helps, you, yourself aspire to go to higher levels. I think for some men they would rather have the pretty trophy on their arm and could care less about intelligence (my husband was a college professor and I must say most had these really beautiful wives but when they opened their mouths I wondered what they had in common, and my husband said they spend all day writing, lecturing, and having intellecutal conversations, so they couldn't care less if they have the same at home, most go for the trophy on the arm), however it was a male comedian who spoke the phase I just quoted.

A boy toy only lasts so long. Brains are definitely needed to have an intelligent conversation. There are enough ignorant stupid people in this world, I wouldn't intentionally go looking for one just because they were good looking. If a person can't carry on a conversation or hold down a good job, what good is that? Life is too short to waste your time with something that belongs in a glass case. I would look for someone who is equally educated and has a professional career with a future. Anything else is a waste of time and effort.

I wouldn't care so long as they had something in common with me. An individual can have all the brains in the world but be unable to hold an interesting conversation or could be a complete idiot but tons of fun.
Besides, this question heavily depends upon ones definition of what is "handsome", "ugly", "intelligent" and "dumb". People have different standards.

I would always prefer the intelligent one, stupidity frustrates me often. I'm not sure I would marry someone who was hugely deformed or just ugly to the point of looking so, but I would still marry someone who was a 4 on the pretty chart if they were a 9 on the intelligence chart, and humorous as well.

See the Pattern??
The younger more attractive females typically choose the dumb stud.
The older females typically choose the smart average-ugly guy.
Conclusion: If you are a young Nice Guy (average to ugly) you can forget having any sex with the choice physical speciman female.
If you are a young dumb "hotguy" you can nail her over and over, until her looks fade and she has been ran thru.
Then the Average Guy is suddenly attractive to her, after she has given herself to several other men.
Now marry her and rest in the knowlege that there are 5, 10, 25 or even 50 other men around whose penis has been inside your wife.
Great feeling eh!

There are more"good looking" men than ugly ones; but some intelligent and ugly ones are considerate, kind, generous to boot; there are no pretenses with them (they are honest) and a girl can appreciate him even more than the handsome man.I hope this answer gets across.

This is honestly the hardest question and one which I am seriously needing to consider. In the most unfortunate of realities, I choose the handsome stupid one. My husband is drop dead gorgeous in my eyes and about as sharp as a bowling ball. I'm not saying that he is just sitting in a corner drooling, but he certainly lacks an abundance of deep thoughts. Anyhow, I know also a wonderful man that is sharp as a razor and I really want it to be right, but among other things he is just less sexy to me. I am not going to say he is ugly, because he isn't at all... there are wonderfully sexy things about him.... but it is hard to imagine looking at him for the rest of my life. Gosh, this sounds terrible, I hope neither one of them ever read this. In conclusion it is a difficult thing to decide, there are surely many factors to consider that aren't given in your details. I'm all for ugly and intelligent. Looks seem to turn me off rather than on. But then again, I don't have the looks of a super model either.
