If you are asking how to do a list while typing an answer like how Word will automatically see you are making a list and format it accordingly...
This will not work on Yahoo, because you are just typing in a simple text box in your browser. The best thing to do is just type it in...
1. list 1
(press enter)
2. list 2
and so on

You might be asking how to do this using HTML or using MS Word.
In HTML you can make a numbered list using the "ordered list" tag:
- apples
- bananas
In office word you can select your text and in the menu choose
format > numbers and lettering
There is also usually an icon for it somewhere on the right hand side in the list of icons.

Unfortunately, for those of us who hate autoformatting, list is usually turned on by default. So as soon as you keep hitting return, Word formats the lines as a list. Annoying.
If it doesn't auto format, select all the lines you want to be in the list, then choose Format->Bullets and Numbers. You can find this in the menubar or in the formatting palette.

Presumably in MS Word??
You can use the Numbered bullet point icon. Just open Word and do a search on "numbered lists" in the Help.

What are you using to do this? A programming language, an application (excel or Word etc?).
