First think about what is the point you are trying to get across. Do you want to talk about how deadly it is? How we can prepare for it?

Let's say you want to talk about how deadly it is. When has an avian flu happened before? (Look it up) What is the difference between the normal flu and the avian flu? (A tougher question to answer)

In short, what are the main points that will elaborate on your big message? Since it just needs to be a page, you'll need about 3 points. For example, if you talk about preparation, you can talk about 3 different things to prepare for the flu.

So, your layout should be:
1. Intoduction of topic (2-3 sentences) For example, you can talk about why we should even care about the avian flu. At the end of the introduction is when you state your thesis (i.e. To prepare for the flu we need to blank and blank and blank).
2. Body (Talk about each main point individually. Use about 3 sentences for each point. There will probably be a main point that you know more about than the others; you should make this your final point. It will leave a bigger impact.)
3. Conclusion (Restate your thesis. i.e. "In conclusion, we need to do blank and blank and blank to prepare for the avian flu") Restate why what you just said even matters ("this preperation is necessary because the avian flu...")

Be concise. When you practice don't say "um" or anything else unless you mean it. For speeches, keep your sentences relatively short. People can have a hard time following long, drawn out thoughts. Good luck.

There are a couple bird flu experts at The Ohio State University, I heard one of them in a presentation. You migth want to check out their website and see what you can find..

As far as what to talk about, I would suggest where it originated, how it is passed, what its symptons are, the migration pattern of birds, and what damage it could do. Also some things to prevent it would be good and what possible cures they are working on.
