What will socity do when we will not be able to afford to go to work? Crime has increased where I live. Some companys has talked of closeing their doors because of the price of gas. Our wages hasn't increased. The goverment has not made it affordable for the average family to get one of those cars that run on whatever. Do you think that there will be a breakdown because of this awful circle we are entering?

I walk to work everyday. I work at a gas station/grocery store. I hear this from people everyday. I am asking for the public.

never fear the oil sands are here. They are a viable new source for new oil reserves. Rising prices in the middle east have renewed intrest in the canadian oil sands. Although gas prices can be crippling the government will surly step in before a total breakdown occurs. Exxon made 36.1 billion dollars profit last year, so if pressured they'll have a hard time explaing things.

I already know that tomorrow I'll have to use pennies from a jar to get enough gas to get to work tomorrow. Your question is legitimate and thought-provoking. The breakdown has begun, if you listen to the people on the street in my city. But we all have to hang in there with white knuckles.

No. America has survived fuel shortages before, and not being able to afford fuel could be similar to that. People are resilient. I'm not too concerned. Maybe it will be a way to get over our obesity problem.

If you want to get to work, you'll find a way to do it. Try walking, taking public transportation, or riding a bicycle.

If things get really bad, volunteer to work overtime, do a serious search for work closer to home, or consider moving.
