I'm surprised you could get your plates renewed; here in Ontario a person in your situation wouldn't be able to get new plates with outstanding tickets, let alone a warrant. The warrant is serious business in any jurisdiction, and yes you can be arrested on site. That's the power a warrant conveys.

Police in all jurisdictions that I'm aware of have access to a computer network that can on demand pull up your driving record, right there in their cruisers. If a police officer on patrol decides on a whim to pull up your plate when you drive by you are busted.

My advise ( and please note I'm not a lawyer) would be to call legal aid and speak to a lawyer about surrendering yourself to the court. It always looks better to come in on your own; it shows the judge that you are serious about cleaning up your mess. Once you get in front of a judge and explain your situation you'll probably get off with a fine, depending on your record and whether or not the State of Texas gives the judge some leeway in sentencing. Given your financial situation, that fine might be commuted to community service. If the judge decides to be harsh, you may wind up having to liquidate assets to pay your fine i.e.: you may have to sell the car. Better than jail though.

Again, I'm not a lawyer and have no knowledge of the specific statutes in Texas so call legal aid and get professional advice. Good luck!

What kind of tickets are they? If they are parking tickets the responsible party is the owner of the car. If the car was in your name and they go into warrant you can be stopped at anytime and if they run a check on your license and they come up, you go directly to jail and do not pass go. It's a risk and a real hassle. Besides do you really want to have to explain to a room full of murderers that your in for expired meter charges? You 'll be sold to the highest bidder your first day there.

everybody here is correct!...the state of Texas will let you make payments and at this point that's what you need to do, right now you are on the clock sooner or later you will get stopped again and the clock will run out and if you thought you had money problems before, tickets+court cost+jail+permanent arrest record+ the possibility of losing your Drivers license+ and possibly a new job you might have= Great sorrow.

If you are stopped for anything they will know you have warrants. Why not go in and face your responsibilities, they have payment plans to help you pay off the outstanding tickets, it is like playing Russian roulette . why take a chance of being arrested and having to maybe go to jail . Seems pretty cut and dried to me . You got your tickets for not obeying the traffic laws of your state and now you want us to tell you how to keep breaking the law. Take responsibility for your own actions and suffer the consequences . I know this isn't what you want to hear but its the truth.

You need to quit driving and get your legal mess cleared up, unless you want to go to jail for your warrants. (There's a cold baloney sandwich with your name on it.)

You'll find out soon enough that when the courts issue warrants, especially in Texas, they really want you to act like an ADULT and take care of your business.

Being unemployed is no excuse for not paying your fines. You seem to have money for gas and new plates...

Yes, they can arrest you. By checking your drivers license thru their database it will show any outstanding warrants.

Trust me, come up with the money for the tickets, it's much cheaper than getting bailed out of jail

They don't need your plate #, they can tell just by looking at you.
They take one look at you and say "let's bust this punk, he must be guilty of something, look at that piece of sheet he driving."
And how do you pay for gas if you don't have a job and can't afford your responsibilities.
Oh, right, garden hose.
But thanks for the 2 points, you just put me at Level 3.
B.T.W. Texas sucks.
