What does it take for an American lawyer to practice in Switzerland? Assuming one holds a JD from an ABA accredited American school does one need to pursue a law degree in Switzerland? What is there BAR equivalent? Any info is much appreciated!

Well, there are several huge lawyer partnerships employing American lawyers these days - to worry about Swiss clients with US business relations.

For this, you will not need any special permission, just an employer who also will organise the immigration matters (should be easy).

To put it straight: You won't have a chance to work on entirely Swiss cases - the Swiss law is completely different to the US law, besides the language problem.

In case I can offer you any kind of link or contact, please specify your need and send an e-mail. The link suggested is of an international company with activities in Switzerland.

Considering the amount of study involved in obtaing a JD and a bar certification in the US, one could assume that holder of such credentials should be able to do their own research. I would not have faith in a lawyer unable to answer such a simple question.
