Thanks for the reminder, Indi. Besides book, tv show, character, I'm including play, opera, musical, textbook, newspaper, magazine, op-ed page piece, instruction manual... you name it, if it's been in some other medium but not a movie, it qualifies for this question.

Kinda tricky... best character who hasn't been made into a movie is Roland from Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Unfortunately it's best if that never happens... the books are so extensive and detailed (there are 7 of them) that they'd no doubt be butchered. Think of just about every movie based on a Stephen King novel, with the exception of The Green Mile... that was great.

I can't remember the name of that series for kids about the children with little animals on their shoulders. I think that's one that they will or should be doing into a movie. I've only read the first book in the series and it has to do with there being a gateway between our world and the theirs and the way to open that gateway is to use the energy produced when you separate a child from their familiar or whatever term you want to use. They called it a 'severed' child.

I read that book once about a Russian girl that fell in love with a soldier but who had to take part in the WW2 nad its all about how her life changed from one day to the next. Its incredible and I would like to see it getting alive in a movie.
The name of the book is The Bronze horseman by Paullina Simons.

The Australian novel, Eucalyptus. But it is going to be made into a film starring Nicole Kidman and Heath Ledger. Russell Crowe was first choice to star as the legendary Stranger, but he wanted too much money.

Films that were better than the novel? Jaws and Sophie's Choice.

Red Rabbit by Tom Clancy

Should be very good.

No tv show is worth it these days..
All though i wish they would get Peanuts done.. It was on a list about 7 years ago of tv shows to be made into movies.

I think the trilogy "Irish Born" by Nora Roberts should be a movie.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to try and write the script for that or her "Three Fates" myself. I'm kind of fascinated in Irish history and folklore.
