why does a person rent a humidor in a cigar shop?

This question is prompted from a scene in CSI NY from last Wednesday.

Because they aren't allowed to keep one at home, or the cigars are so expensive that they don't want to take the chance on ruining them?

well..its kinda real simple...

a person that wants only a cigar that is fresh will have the cigars that are purchased and shipped to the tobacco store under de-humidified conditions will get the cigar in a better way if its immediately decanted into a container to hold it until the owner can transfer it to their own humidor.
