They lack the power of discernment and a lack of vision.
They are too quick to judge others rather than have others judge them.
They are usually shallow and empty people and mostly ignorant of the world in which they live.
They are quick to judge because they hide some of it themselves
and are usually over compensating for their own failings and guilt.
They will blame everybody but themselves and judge all in order to make them feel good about themselves.

Prejudice becomes a problem when it turns in to discrimination, though it is true that we all have prejudices, through a certain amount of conditioning, these feelings can turn into actions against the people. When the prejudice of black people(felt by some) turns into murder or oppression, something needs to be done about it. Dealing with the prejudice might help wipe these hate crimes in the first place- But then can we control what people think and believe?

Prejudice is born of ignorance. Some people would think that's an insult- it's not. It just means that people who have a prejudice are uneducated in the thing they're prejudiced against and have taken a blanket stance toward it.
For example, let's say that you grew up in a town where a lot of Latin people lived, but don't really know them, and you'd heard and read about how many illegal immigrants there are living in the United States. When you met one, most people would have a prejudiced opinion about that person, that they were probably an illegal immigrant and so on, whether they actually were or not.
The danger comes in when a person refuses to let go of that prejudice even in the face of facts, or lets it color the way they treat a person. That's when it becomes racism, and becomes a problem.
So I would say that prejudice is somewhat natural in people who haven't been exposed to other cultures, and that we can be understanding about that, but I believe that racism of any shape, type or form is wrong, and people who practice it have become bad people, at least in that aspect of their lives.

People with prejudice have always been with us, in fact, we are all prejudiced to some degree. Even the most liberal person will find something to be prejudiced against. This is because there is such a plethora of ideas, objects, things, words and cultural quirks out there that at least one person is prejudiced against.
An example would be the practice of cannibalism, many avowed liberals despise this practice by default. Whether this is understandable or not, the fact remains that these liberals have a prejudice. Therefore, everyone is prejudiced in some way so we will have to accept that and deal with the most serious examples of prejudice through power of example and persuasive argument.

by the comments people are making..they are prejudice against prejudice people. when people have prejudices its only because they dont know enough about a person or situation. Everyone has ideas of the way things should be/shouldnt be..and if someone doesnt fall into that "way" then they are wrong. its sad. Why cant everyone be ok the way they are? then there may not be so many problems in this world.

I'd say most of us are guilty of prejudice in one form or the other. A reasonable person would make an effort, however, to find out about others before forming an opinion about them. Prejudice breeds bias, discrimination and intolerance which are some of the major causes of conflicts and wars.

being prejudiced is generally associated with white people, but all ethnic groups are equally prejudiced against each other people feel safest with there own group what ever the colour for example if french and English people were stranded together after a time the french would stick with the french and blame the English for all the problems and visa versa if every thing is going good for all i suspect that prejudice wouldn't be so much of an issue

Everybody has a little amount of prejudice in us. People judging others on the outer appearance rather than knowing the person on a personal level is considered prejudice.

A little prejudice is the devil side of any human being's nature although some of us have learned how to hide it better than the others. I dont think we can do much about the deep down existence of this devilish nature (just like we cannot choose our parents), except to train oneself not to allow it to take control and to keep reminding yourself that we are all the same with feelings and craving for equal treatment and dont generalise a group of people because of wrong doing of one of the group members as there are goods and bads in any groups of people.

It is true that everyone has their prejudices.
The trick is to recognize that your view is a prejudice and to somehow be open to changing it and/or controlling it. In other words, you may have a prejudice against green people and you know it (conscious, rather than unconscious). So when you meet a green person, you say to yourself, I don't like green people, but I am going to try to give this green person a chance anyway and maybe I am wrong about green people - maybe they are just as human as everyone else.
Thank you for your very interesting question.
