Where would the people whose descendents went to live in the United States hundreds of years ago be dumped? And if you found some people who had lived in America more than 15,000 years ago, would you kick out the Native Americans? And would you try to put right the results of any wars between Native American tribes?
We cannot unwind history; but need to live for future peace and prosperity.

I believe that the govt. did officially apologize awhile back, and even gave them a monetary sum. Unfortunately, I don't think that we can "give back" America to them. Too many of us, too few of them, though I do wish we could. I still get angry at how we treated them when they were here first. But then again, if we didn't come over here and get to know the Indians, then we wouldn't have Thanksgiving.

This kind of muddle-headed nonsense is just simplistic sophistry.
The history of human kind is about the movement and changes of tribes and peoples over the world. Every place in the world has been fought over, and has seen numerous changes in the cultures and peoples holding dominion over it. To think the Indians are somehow more deserving of having a land they failed to hold is nonsense.
They lost the clash of civilizations, being technologically and culturally inferior to the Europeans.

They never owned it so why give it back? Where did they come from? Just because you arrive in a country doesn't make you the owner. If you would bother to read history, you will discover that the American Indian's worse enemy were other Indians, THEN came the expansion.

we cant give it back..as one writer stated where would we all go. but they should be given their dignity back. casinos and vehicles are no where near enough. it truly saddens me to see what horrors were fostered upon them. it brings that reparations word into play again..how much is enough. I say we allow them to live in peace with dignity and respect. stop hating the fact they were in fact here first and have more right to be here than any other ethnic group or race of people here presently.

someone said being there first does not guarantee ownership, but i disagree. they were here first - i think aologies are in order but we can't give them their way of life back so no I would not give it back, but I would invest in preserving their culture and I would try to take them out of deadend lives
