I don't mean to offend but, why do many lesbians try to look butch. If I was interested in a female I would rather she looks like Chrisy Brinckley not David Brinkley.

I agree with you, but it takes all kinds to make the world go around. The ones who take on the androgenous look are usually just more comfortable that way for whatever their reasoning is.

I don't actually see that many butch women, and the ones who do try usually still look like women to me. Traditional femininity--the long hair, the makeup, the dresses--is very high maintenance. So maybe butches don't want any part of that. Or they just like the butch swagger and butch attitude. Or they look and feel ridiculous in traditionally feminine clothing. I'm glad I live in a society where people get to wear what makes them comfortable with themselves.

I myself am a bisexual femme married to a lesbian who mixes it up--shaved head and red lipstick!

Some people are more comfortable acting and dressing in a way that suits their personality. I, myself, am a feminine lesbian, but I am attracted to butch/stud types, as well as TG FTMs. It's not that I want a bio-man, but that I enjoy the strong masculinity of a butch women/FTM without the hang ups of a bio-male. Again, it's all a matter of preference.

We don't try to look butch, we just do.

Funny, I am very very butch looking, but I have pictures from about..14 years ago when I was the bridesmaid in a wedding. I have this big poofy, pretty dress on, hair all long and wavy. Make up and the whole 9 yards. When I show it to people, they tell me I look like a boy in a dress.

That works for me because I was absolutely miserable in a dress. I tried wearing make up and stuff. I felt like a clown. It just isn't who I am. But I never buy or wear clothes and think to myself "Oh I like this, it really makes me look like a guy". My intention is not to do that, it's just to be comfortable and happy.

To some, it's not like they "want" to look butch, it's just who they are and it comes natural to them. Me, well I'm in between...I can look butch or girly, whatever I want and feel like to. Now I have to look more on the girly side because of my job. But anyway, I'm more into femme women, it would be weird for me to date a butch, not because I don't think they are cute, but because it would just be weird for me.

it's just about what's comfortable, but then, you can't say this about all lesbians. I've seen plenty of straight women who would be considered butch-looking as well.

because that's what turns me on. I won't go for a girl who spends 45 minutes doing her hair and putting on make-up before we go out. that's not a turn-on for me. and besides, butch, stud, or soft stud women are very comfortable with themselves and i am comfortable with what and who i am
