In Terry Gilliam's movie "Brazil" there is a background story of terrorism which has been ongoing for more than 20 years (in this dystopian, future British society pictured in the movie). In one scene you see an interview with a government figure on a television set in the background, and they are asking him if the terrorists are winning the war since they have not been stopped in 20 years. The govt. guy says: "Beginner's luck!"
The war on terrorism is vaguely defined. This is in part unavoidable (because anyone can be a terrorist, right) and in part deliberate (because a vaguely defined cause of public fear is easier to manipulate).
Why do you think the Bush administration has chosen to imprison "suspects" in places like Guantanimo, far from the glare of the media? Why do you think they have been denying them Geneva convention rights? Why do you think they have illegally extradited them to other countries in order to have them tortured? Why do you think they have been encouraging, if not directly ordering, low ranking soldiers to mistreat, abuse and torture prisoners? If they are seen, tried and either convicted or released, the size of the problem is defined and thus manageable. Hidden away they seem like an undefined horde. Kind of like the movie monster, scariest before he's seen.
It's all about having a bogeyman to scare people with. When the Soviet Union collapsed, George Bush Sr. crowed about the peace dividend that would come for having won the cold war.
Do you remember the peace dividend? Did you ever see it?
The only way there is a peace dividend is if we stop spending so much money on the tools of war. But there are very powerful, very wealthy, very well positioned people who profit big time from all the military spending America does (50% of the GLOBAL total). In order to justify having so much of the tax dollar go to guns, fighter planes, tanks, bombs and navy ships (instead of education, health care and public infrastructure) you have to have everyone really afraid.
So: terrorism! The perfect boogey man! Just like the one you feared as a child, he is invisible but no amount of checking in the closet or under the bed will convince you that he really isn't there. As soon as the lights are out and Mommy and Daddy are out of the room, your *** is grass buddy!

I believe that there is no end to terrorism because The United States will never be liked by the middle east because our cultures are too different and yes they are raising children to become terrorists. In my opinion the only way to cut down on terrorist attacks on our country is to stay out of other country's problems and affairs because it is bound to piss them off. The United States cannot save the world and when a president will realize that our country will be a lot better off.

There have been terrorist from the beginning of time.
The only way to deal with terrorists is on an individual specific incident basis. It is impossible to wipe out terrorism and Georgie puss knows this. He was mad because someone threatened to kill his Daddypoo. No matter that thousands of our soldiers and other innocents has to die because of an ego issue. Presidents and presidents families have always had enemies and will always have enemies. That is why there is the secret service to protect them. Why kill our soldiers to satisfy Geogie's ego demands.

I think you know the answer to that.
Unpleasant as it may be.
War isnt pretty
Maybe once the loss of innocent lives balances out on both sides,
Theyll start sending their kids to school to learn how to read instead of how to kill and hate.
If not..............
Maybe a few of those terrorist training centers have to be hit.
These people need to know that we mean business.
Israel is teaching them this right now.
And this time i dont think anyone can stop them.
We need to get in there with them and end this nonsense with these terrorist bastards once and for all.
Flatten a few places......... take some places off the map.
Death is "glorious" for these people,
I say we give it to them.
EDIT
Thats a good one Rory
Geneva convention rights.........
Does the geneva convention allow you to cut off prisoner of wars' heads, like they do to our soldiers?
Does the geneva convention allow you to wage war on your own people like the sunnis do with the shiites?
Does the geneva convention prohibit the red cross from visiting prisoners of war like they do in the gaza strip?
Youre an A$$hole Rory
If anyone is violating the geneva convention its them you moron.

Terrorism has been with us since Old Testament times. (Read the stories of how clans would poison wells to destroy neighboring clans, not to mention invading armies of Hebrews putting women and children 'to the sword' when cities fell.) I don't think it's likely to disappear from the face of the earth in our lifetime.

It probably won't ever end, to be honest. It's possible it will continue in the generations to come. We can't catch all the bad guys and they have family's and they probably on the same wave link as the family member. If it ever does end, I believe it will be in WW3. With nuclear weapons it will probably be the end of man kind. That's just my thoughts on it.

...and the Bushites are training their childing to keep up this wolrds of lies and control.
There is no War on Terror- we can only try to stop terrorists, and others that wish to do us harm. Perhaps it is a war on sanity!

Yes, but the "win" will not result from military action, but through actions of diplomacy, economics and education.
