Because one is a group of snail eating, onion selling cowards whose only purpose is to surrender. And the other is the greatest nation on earth who are fortunate enough to have France just close enough to realise how lucky they are.

Because a lot of British see the French as being an arrogant nation.

Also, historically there have been conflicts between the nations, normally with the French wanting to conquer Britain.
But in more recent history the French been seen as walkovers in wars, such as the second world war.

Also, it doesn't help that Chirac was seen to be "in bed" with Sadam Hussain buying cheap oil off him when Iraq was not meant to trade with anyone (wonder why Chirac was anti-war?).

Then there's the EU - Britain puts waaaaaaaay more money in than what it gets out, and Chirac wants more. French farmers get much higher subsidies than than their British counterparts.

etc, etc, etc.....

I think it's a "love/hate" relationship. We love to go there because of Disneyland and the beautiful countryside/beaches but we just hate the way that many (not all) are rude and arrogant so therefore we clash. I don't dislike the French but I would say that I've been to France many times and every time I've been there many have shown total lack of respect but it's just the way SOME of them are and I don't think they realise their mannerisms. We shouldn't stereotype all French though by saying they're snail eating frogs just as much they shouldn't stereotype the English as being beer bellied alcoholics!

I think it's English & French, rather than British & French.
The reason - 'cause most people dislike us English

I get on with every French person I have met. I live in England and surprisingly I am English, I love France and everything about it.
Why should we hate the French? No one can hate everyone in a country!!!
That is just ignorant

The French get on fine with the Scots, and presumably the Welsh too. It's just the English they dislike. I know, I've met unfriendly French hotel staff who suddenly became friendly when they realised we were Scottish rather than English.

It is the English that don't like the French, because they couldn't conquer France. Most people don't get on with the English.

Well, we did keep waring with each other, and ever since those days, there has been a sort of accepted code of insults between us... yet, we came together underground inside the resistance to Hitler.

One reason could be that we are all related and too much alike.

My father's surname first came across with the Norman Conquest, in the guise of a knight, who, was at the righthand of King William, and who, was afforded Speke Hall by the king, for his loyalty. Since then, it bred itself across the entire UK and Ireland.

We're all related really:-)

The same reason the Germans, Irish, Scottish.... etc.. don't get on with the English...... because they are English and its as simple and as stupid as that! I don't think a whole load of countries have a problem with the other countries of Britain, just England, but don't worry because they hate everyone back equally.
